As a founder member of the Winegrowers of Ara team, General Manager Dr. Damian Martin identified the potential of the Ara site and has guided the project since its inception.

Dr. Martin has a Doctorate in Oenology and Viticultural Science from the University of Bordeaux. His research was focused on the eco-physiology of the grapevine and the adaptation of viticulture and winemaking practices to soil and climate characteristics. Dr. Martin also possesses wide commercial experience having held key viticulture roles at New Zealand’s two major wine companies, Corbans and Montana.

Dr. Martin maintains a significant role in grape and wine research in New Zealand as a member of both the New Zealand Winegrowers Research Committee and the Marlborough Wine Research Centre Board.
